Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 June 2026
Pury is built to be private by design. It runs on your device, has no user account, and includes no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs. We do not collect, sell or share your personal data.
What stays on your device
- Label scans, photos and OCR text are processed on your iPhone and are not uploaded to us.
- Your scan history, your profile (allergens, diets, modes) and your saved lists are stored locally on your device.
- Purity verdicts and on-device explanations are computed locally using Apple's frameworks (Vision, Apple Intelligence).
Optional features that use a network
These only run when you actively use them:
- Barcode lookup. If you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to the open Open Food Facts database to retrieve product information. No personal data is attached.
- Claude AI explanations (bring your own key). If you turn this on and add your own Anthropic API key, the facts of the scanned label are sent to Anthropic to generate a written explanation, under your own key. Your key is stored only in your device Keychain.
- Apple Health. If you grant access, Pury reads your Heart Rate Variability and sleep to show, on your device, how days with flagged products line up with how you feel, and can log nutrition from food you scan. Observation only โ never a health claim.
- Community reformulation alerts. If you turn this on, when a product's recipe appears to change between two of your scans, Pury shares an anonymous record โ the product name and a coarse purity-change amount โ to a shared database so other Pury users can be alerted. No account, no device identifier, and nothing that identifies you is attached. You can turn this off at any time in the app, and you can ask us to remove your contributions by emailing support.
A barcode or product-name lookup also sends that barcode/name (not personal data) to Open Food Facts. Apart from the optional features above, your scans, history and profile stay on your device.
Subscriptions
Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple. We never see your payment details. Apple may share aggregate, non-identifying purchase information with us as the developer.
Children
Pury is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from anyone. The optional "Child mode" only changes how strictly ingredients are flagged โ it collects nothing.
Your rights
Because your data lives on your device, you are in control: deleting the app removes your scans, profile and lists. You can disable any optional network feature at any time in the app's settings.
